After the Earthquakes: Nepal Mountain Safety for Tourism

NEPAL - POST EARTHQUAKE  - MOUNTAIN SAFETY FOR TOURISM
I'm just off to support, on behalf of the NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Nepal's efforts to restart their trekking industry after April's devastating earthquakes.

My focus is with assisting the main tourism agencies - The Nepal Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and the Nepal Mountaineering Association with re addressing safe and safer trekking systems including: communications, rescue, shelters and training support for guides and porters.

I am working with a NZ track specialist, Trevor Butler who is assessing Track Safety. We will focus our field work on the Manang-Annapurna mountain region. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to make a small contribution to Nepal's massive rebuild. I will report back in late July.

Watch out for more blogging.
